Ministries at St. Luke’s
Labyrinth
The outdoor labyrinth at St. Luke’s is a place of peace and meditation for the Gresham community, open to all at all times of day. To learn more about the labyrinth, please visit our labyrinth page.
Sunday School and Nursery Care
Sunday School is offered for the children of St. Luke’s. Currently, we provide Godly Play -- a Montessori-based Sunday School curriculum -- for all children ages three and up (nursery care is provided for children under three). Our Sunday School Director is Sandy Stumpf. (Sunday School does not meet the fourth Sunday of each month, when we have our family service especially for children.)
Healing Team
Our healing team is an active and vital ministry at St. Luke’s. The healing team is made up of people who have had training in healing prayer and touch, who maintain a ministry of visitation to those who are sick or in need of other kinds of healing. As part of our vital healing ministry, homemade prayer shawls are distributed to members of the congregation and community in times of need. If you are interested in learning more about the healing team, please contact Maryland Stephens.
Lay Eucharistic Ministers
Lay Eucharistic Ministers -- or LEMs, as they are affectionately known -- assist with the liturgy at St. Luke’s. They receive special training and are each licensed by the Diocese. If you would like more information about becoming a LEM, please contact Mark Ebberts. Click here to view the LEM, Acolyte, Reader and Prayer Schedule.
Lay Eucharistic Visitors
Lay Eucharistic Visitors take Eucharist to our home-bound or sick members, offering a short Eucharist liturgy in homes and hospitals. Being a Lay Eucharistic Visitor is an important ministry of the Christian church, providing God’s love and hospitality to those who need it most.
Music Team
Our music team provides music leadership in Sunday morning services and other special services. Musical styles range from choral to folk, from ragtime to classical. Absolutely everyone with a desire to express themselves musically is welcome to join the music team. If you are interested, email Ian Doescher by clicking here.
Programs at or Supported by St. Luke’s
Zarephath Pantry and Kitchen
Zarephath Pantry and Kitchen are outreach programs of Trinity Lutheran Church in Gresham. The Pantry provides free groceries to area families and individuals, and the Kitchen provides a free weekday lunch to any who need it. On the fourth Sunday, St. Luke’s “passes the buckets” for offerings to Zarephath Pantry and Kitchen to help feed the needy in our local area. Offerings of money and non-perishable food items are always welcome. For more information on Zarephath, please click here.
Scribbles Preschool
Scribbles Preschool is located in the lower level of St. Luke’s, and is run by Jill Russell. The Preschool offers classes for children ages three to five. For more information about Scribbles, please visit their web site by clicking here.
Shared Joy BRingers Community Handbell Choir
The mission of the Shared Joy BRingers Community Handbell Choir is to echo divine love, enabling people to connect with themselves and one another, thus doing their part in bringing the world into a harmonious community. They do this through church services, workshops and other ministries to which they are led. The Shared Joy BRingers are led by Christine Weber-Kearney, and are always looking for more handbell ringers -- no previous experience or musical background is needed, just a willingness to learn and have fun. The Shared Joy BRingers practice at St. Luke’s. For more information, please call Christine Weber-Kearney at 503-408-1329 or click here to email her. You can also click here to visit their web site, or click here to view a Shared Joy BRingers brochure for those interested in joining.
